Day 2 in the big bathroom

First thing I have to say today is this.  Happy Birthday Honey Bunny.  Today is Joe’s birthday 🙂  He is 73 today.  Can you believe it?!  I can’t.  He sure gets around well for someone in his 70’s.  His body is aching more and more in the knees and hips but he is still my “Go Getter” 🙂

Now, on to the Flylady way to clean.

While I was getting started in the bathroom this morning, my wonderful husband got busy with the vacuum sweeper.

Joe and I spend so much time together.  Frankly, ladies, I do take my Joe for granted sometimes 😦  When he does something out of the norm for me I truly appreciate him and his efforts.  It is times like this that I know what a treasure I have and I let him know it.  It confounds him and makes him uncomfortable.  He wonders if he’s done something wrong.

My Joe is NOT the typical “man” and I forget that at times. So, once again…Thank You Honey Bunny for being YOU 🙂

While he is close with the vacuum I interrupted his work to take it from him.  That circulation vent needs to be cleaned in the worst way.

Now doesn’t that look better?

Today took two 15 minute intervals to work on the portion of the bathroom that I did.  Which included the circulation vent…

And cleaning the light diffuser.

The dust is pretty bad in here.

Do I get in that big, luxurious, soaking tub?  Why yes I do 🙂  But only to clean it anymore.  I have had a few soaks in this tub.  It is quite relaxing with the water up to my neck.  The only problem is getting out.  The step is slick beneath my wet feet.  One time I got out a whole lot faster than I intended to 🙂

I have to get into the tub to clean it.  Reaching across to the furthest point to clean is quite a stretch for me.  Yes, I’m still in my pajamas.  Lovely sight isn’t it 😦

Once I have the tub scoured with Clorox Soft Scrub then I clean the trash can and lid with the soapy rag….after I’ve emptied the trash first.  I then use the trash can to rinse the tub of the cleanser.

The last thing is to clean the mirrors surrounding the tub.

All of this I did in less than 30 minutes.  Is the bathroom perfectly cleaned?  No.  Is there still work to do in here?  Yes.  Am I happy with my results?  Yes.

Tomorrow I have the toilet area, shower, and floor to do.  These three items will take more than 15 minutes to do.  Especially the shower stall since it is very large.

The next time the bathrooms come on the list all I will need do then is get the walls vacuumed and washed down.  Vacuum the ceiling.  Until that time comes I will be doing a daily swipe with a damp microfiber cloth to keep the dust at bay and water splashes around the sink cleaned up.

A Clorox Wipe will be used on the toilet to keep the outside cleaned.  Shampoo or vinegar and baking soda will be used to clean the toilet bowl after I have thoroughly scrubbed it all over with a good cleaning.

A “Swish and Swipe” will only be needed once the bathroom has been thoroughly cleaned.  5 minutes max to take care of this room from now on.

There is still work to be done before I feel the bathroom is thoroughly cleaned.  One day at a time and 15 minutes at a time.  The less pressure you put on yourself to do the job, and do it well, makes house cleaning easier and takes the stress off.

The first thing I would do with that bathroom would be to take down those mirrors around the tub! Yikes!

Does it count for MY 15 minutes of cleaning that I spent 15 minutes reading your BLOG about cleaning? Yes, I think it does, too!

    • Message In A Fold

Yes, the 15 minutes counts after spending 15 minutes on my blog 🙂 The mirrors are going to stay up. A neighbor wanted to remove her mirrors and put up wallpaper. The mirror glass is thin and the adhesive used to stick it on the wall is strong. She wound up in the hospital for stitches in both arms and getting glass out of her eyes. She is amazed she didn’t kill herself by being impaled with the sharp glass.

      Thank you Maureen 🙂

How about using some of that new Martha Stewart paint that is for all surfaces, and paint it with a magnetic paint? Then you can put all kinds of pretty things up there! Or maybe just use it to paint some of the tiles?

      • Message In A Fold

Wow! I didn’t know Martha Stewart made some magnetic paint! I’ll have to check that out. The “tiles” on the mirrors is some kind of plastic tape stuff. Over the years quite a bit of it has disintegrated and peeled off. I could use some paint in the areas the tape is still on then work at getting that scruffy tape off.

Hey Maureen. That could be a two person job 🙂 You could come and give me some ideas and we could both get in the tub to mark off the areas with tape and paint the sections 🙂

        Love you Big Sis 🙂

SURPRISE!! It’s me! Hello friend! I’ve missed you so much and I’m going to do my best to get back into things here! My box has been so full of your post that I have hoped to read and start with but it hasn’t happened…but here we go!
I know the title of this one was a very strange one to start with but I was quite certain I would not need a snack! haha I am happy that I’m only a day late in wishing Joe a Very Happy Birthday! Yes, you do have a treasure in him! The Lord has blessed a few of us in the husband department, hasn’t he? So you’ll be keeping him? 😉
You have a fabulous bathtub, Leslie! I would say those mirrors would be my best weight loss program EVER! lol I would have to make room for a bookshelf in that room, and my cappuccino machine, and snacks, of course…lots and lots of snacks! haha Oh, I’m already forgetting the weight loss program! lol But I would LIVE in that tub!
My SIL has talked about the Flylady system of cleaning. I’m afraid she actually spends so much time studying it that she has no time to actually clean! lol I think it’s fantastic and I look forward to seeing and reading more! Hello to you too, Maureen! Hope all is well with you! 🙂
    Okay…more again soon!
    Love & Prayers,
    Nancy 🙂

Hello there Nancy. It is good to hear from you 🙂

Nancy, I’m so happy to see you have finally got the attention you deserve with your projects. I love to pop in on your sight and see the great comments left by others that enjoy you and your work as much as I do 🙂

I, too, thought the mirrors around my tub would be inducement enough to lose weight. Hasn’t happened yet and I’m not sure it will happen at this stage of the game 🙂 You are just too funny 🙂 However, the thought of a good snack to nosh on while reading a good book and soaking in hot bubbly water does sound good indeed 🙂

Thank you Nancy. Yes, indeed, we have been blessed by wonderful men in our lives. I do believe I will be keeping Joe for quite a number of years yet to come 🙂 Besides, he’s kind of grown on me 🙂

I’m glad you are enjoying my blabbing on about Flylady. This kind of cleaning does not work well for everyone. It kind of goes against the grain from what I learned as a child. Once a person does let down their expectations for “Perfection” then this is when the system works the best. In my case it took several years to fully accept the idea of letting go of perfection and being happy with the little bits daily. It all ends up working out as I go along and then I become quite happy with the results. This is not an instant fix and I’m always looking for. Hiring a cleaning person is out of the question so I have to rely on myself and I know my limitations.

      Love you Girlfriend – Leslie

No I couldn’t have those mirrors either- I am so fat and yuk that I could never go in that bathroom 🙂 I never look in mirrors if I can avoid it, I hate myself and only use a very small mirror to make sure my hair is brushed right!!!! Hate being photographed too.

It is a beautiful bathroom though (except the mirrors :)) and so glad you have achieved as much as you have.
I have to clamber into our bath to wipe the dust off the shelf that is above the bath for shampoos and things otherwise I can reach it and it just collects even more dust and spiders LOL
Same with the large window over the kitchen sink…have to clamber on a chair and kneel on the work surface.

A very, very belated Happy Birthday to Joe. It was Rod’s birthday on Thursday and he was 75. We are very fortunate with our choice of men… didn’t we do well??

    Love and hugs
    Lynn xx

Lynn, how did we manage to get so lucky in our men? Yepper, we have some awesome guys 🙂

I thought I was the only one that is not partial to mirrors. I only look in them when I have to. Like when I notice my chin hairs are competing with Joe’s beard and I am trying to imitate him 🙂 hahahaha.

Ah, those shelves. At first they brought joy to our hearts for the storage they provide. Later they bring grunts and groans when reality sets in. Cleaning has its challenges 🙂

Joe says “Thank You” for the birthday wishes.

      Love you – Leslie
