Our daughter, the very excellent ICU Trauma Nurse, and her boyfriend, Chad, participated In a marathon of sorts in Denver, Colorado. The “Warrior Dash” http://warriordash.com/register2011_rockies.php
Loreli and Chad were two of over 6,000 participants in August at this event. It is a 5k run through mud, fire, beer, and obstacles that will try even the best athlete.
The day dawned with excitement and a bit of trepidation at the prospect of this wild and crazy race.
Loreli and Chad arrived at the starting point along with a group of other newbies and seasoned race enthusiasts.
I don’t know if Chad has entered this race before and I’m pretty sure Loreli has not. I can almost feel her butterflies the day she stood amongst all of these people. In a crowd yet all alone.
I don’t have any details to share with you. I do have a photo of them at the end of the race. They did make it all the way through I’m happy to report.
Can you hear the excited chatter emanating from this group as they stand together? Legs a bit shaky. Hearts pounding. Lungs working over time as they try to catch their breath. Fresh memories of the obstacles they encountered and conquered. Comparing what each did through the course to not lag behind.
Loreli and Chad finished this grueling race in 42 minutes. Looks as though Loreli fell flat a time or two but she got up and kept going.
Trash talk and banter between them had to have been a riot :-). Especially since our Loreli is highly competitive and determined to meet and exceed the goals she places on herself.
Of the over 6,000 people that attended this Warrior Dash our Loreli placed 2772 and Chad placed 2775. He, most likely, was taunted at being beaten even it was only by a smidge.
I don’t know Chad well enough but I bet he answered back with some of his own trash talk 🙂
So here are my two “Warriors”. I’m so proud of these two.
